Pax Britannia at MCM London Comicon

I attended the MCM London Comicon at the weekend, with fellow Steampunk authors Kit Cox and Jema 'Miss Emilly Ladybird' Hewitt.

Raring to go!

It was the usual mix of giant Pac-Men, Manga and Anime characters (that are totally lost on me), zombie-hunting commandos, and PVC fetishism... Sorry! I mean dressing up as Harley Quinn from the Batman franchise.

That's a whole lot of villainy right there!

I was there selling my Pax Britannia novels, but there was also some interest in YOU ARE THE HERO from some of the older attendees, shall we say. It's also always nice to bump into old friends as well, such as Spindles and his crew, and film-maker Martin Gooch.

Steampunking Pax Britannia

It's been a long time since this website had a face-lift. I've been using Blogger's picture window template on my main author website for a while now and felt it was time for this blog to go the same way.

The background wallpaper, if you're wondering, doesn't show Spring-Heeled Jack and the Limehouse Golem (although we can dream, can't we?) but in fact a Steampunk'd Batman.

Steampunk Batman revisited

Apparently this costume was inspired by the DC one-shot Gotham by Gaslight, in which Batman goes head to head with Jack the Ripper. And very impressive it is too.

And while we're on the subject of Batman, the villains Bruce Wayne's alter ego will be up against in the forthcoming The Dark Knight Rises have been confirmed as Catwoman and Bane. You can read more about this announcement here.

What if Batman were a Steampunk hero?

That's the question they're asking over at io9.com.

Well of course Batman already is a Steampunk hero, but he goes by the name of Spring-Heeled Jack. And you can read a brand new Spring-Heeled Jack adventure, starting this December, on the Abaddon Books website.
